Odisha FC signs Brazilian striker Diego Maurício

31 August 2020: Odisha FC roped ahead of the 7th edition of the Hero Indian Super League in Brazilian striker Diego Mauricio. Mauricio has today signed a one-year contract with the Bhubaneswar side.The 29-year-old striker has experience playing at many of the world’s major football leagues. In 2010 he made his senior club debut for Brazil’s Flamengo where he joined up with Ronaldinho, the football hero.He has been playing for other teams in Brazil such as Sport Club do Recife, Bragantino and Centro Sportivo Alagoano.
The forward, born in Rio de Janeiro, was part of the Brazil U-20 squad and played in a team that boasted of superstars like Phillipe Coutinho, Casemiro, Oscar, Felipe Anderson, Firmino and the mercurial Neymar.

He has also travelled the world playing for Busan IPark and Gangwon FC in South Korea, for Al Qadisiyah in Saudi Arabia, for Vitoria FC in Portugal, for FC Spartak Vladikavkaz in Russia and for Shijiazhuang Ever Bright in China.Welcoming Diego Maurício at OFC, Head Coach Stuart Baxter said, “We ‘re delighted to secure Diego ‘s services. He’s a player who can combine with his teammates and also create chances on his own. He’s going to be a big asset for us when he gets to know the squad.After signing up for Odisha FC, the striker said, “I’m really excited about joining Odisha FC and I’m looking forward to working with Coach Stuart Baxter. I’ve heard and read a lot of interesting stuff about the young Indian players at Odisha FC, the Juggernauts and India as a country. I’m excited about this project and I’m coming to win the league.”
